Men of the Cave Symbol of Hope Book 1 eBook Marisette Burgess Reviews

Intriguing & Addictive!

Wow! What a fantastic start to a new series. Get ready for a fantastic Journey as Kasey discovers a whole new life/world beyond her wildest dreams in a country far away from her own home. I was intrigued by the story immediately as the author's description of Kasey and her situation became visualized from the smooth writing. It was totally addicting and I could not put the book down, I had it read within 4 hours and only craved more in the end.

The characters were so real like and the connections between all of them were family oriented, passionate, and heart melting emotional. With a great mixture of Christianity (God & his first Children) and Greek Mythology (Greek God's, Goddess, and Demigods) intertwined, it made for a very interesting story that I will never forget.

First off I love Mythology especially anything about Pandora's Box (Jar) and as I read this great story the author held my interest and excitement of learning more about Pandora and her descendants. I also love the different take on how the God's, Goddess, and demigods came about and how the Almighty God with his warrior angels ended the great war in the heavens.
The myth story on the 7 Men of the Cave came with some interesting characters making the story mysterious and exciting to learn more about them, they were not only handsome but they all had different talents and special abilities to go along with their immortality.

Here are just a few short quotes of their description and who they were

"Max-Maximian can heal with his touch. Anthony-Antoninos, can speak with animals. John-Joannes sees the future and Martin-Martinianus sees the past or present"

"Sam-Sambatus my older brother can leave his body in spirit form and move around in a ghost like way. James-Jamblichos my younger brother can move objects with his mind. Me-Dionysius , I am fast,"

The story's plot remained a mystery all through the book and I loved that about it. The romance between Kasey and Dion built up beautifully. I would have to say the heat level on this romance was mild, I would also say that the story's romance could be based on a border line between Young Adult and Adult especially since Kasey's character was 18 and the immortals were several centuries old. There were a couple of make out scenes but they were very tasteful, nothing naughty.

I found the story very humorous with the bantering between the 7 brothers and with Kasey. In the end, though I wanted a Happy Ever After and an ending climax to the mystery of the 7 Men of the Cave along with the relationship between Kasey and Pandora, I quickly accepted the cliff hanger knowing there will be a book 2 "Jar of Pandora" in the series and am totally Jones-ing until it comes out.

I highly recommend this book to all those who have an interest in romance with mythology and Christianity elements. You will truly be amazed at the author's talented writing and storytelling. Marisette Burgess you have a new fan and I can't wait to read more of your work.

Excellent read!
I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Men of the Cave by Marisette Burgess centers on Kasey, a girl who tries to escape her past by becoming an exchange student abroad, and Dion, a handsome, charismatic yet odd love interest. We see alternating perspectives between the two of them as Kasey discovers that Dion has some secrets that blow her mind and change her world forever. The rest of the book centers on the danger that surrounds Dion's world.

I am torn about this book. Initially, I struggled through this book and didn't know if I would make it to the end, but then halfway through, something happens. The characters are more developed, and the action finally starts. I have seen this issue countless times-- it's very difficult to see where a book should start because there is all this back story and development that has to happen before. However, I think this is where the book should have started. I love the location that Burgess places these characters and her ideas for the world building are interesting.

That said, the slow beginning where we endure Dion and Kasey getting to know each other and working through their odd, stilted conversations (I honestly didn't see the sparks between them), and the fact that this book needs heavy editing, made me decide three stars. Burgess has potential though, and with the right editor, she can only improve.
I am a senior adult reader. I felt this book was meant to be read by a much younger reader. I thought the characters development was poor. I felt the story tried to mimic the vampire series and failed. I won't be reading any other books by this author.
I can't wait to read the rest of this series. The characters are great and the story-line is fast paced. Action and romance with a twist!
Very well written, action pact keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are at least 2 other books that go with this one and they are necessary because one just stops and the next one picks it right up but I don't know how it ends because I do not have the 3rd book, if that is where they end.
A curse, or blessing. God, demigods and immortals roam the earth but this is a tale of the human descendant of what has been deemed impossible to happen.
I debated between giving this book 4 or 5 stars, mainly because there were a few things I would have liked the author to expand on, however, this is a series, so I opted for 5 stars knowing that most of my questions and concerns were likely to be addressed in the upcoming books. This was a very refreshing read, the story was different from most of the other books in this genre. She involved a little of some of the most intriguing mysteries throughout history and of the universe, and spun it in a way as to be the envy of Arachne herself (of course we all know how she ended up). Lately I've been coming across a lot of disappointing reads, books that promise to take an old idea and spin it in a new direction and fail miserably. This book made no such promises but it still succeeded spectacularly. The only mistakes I could find were a few editing mistakes, but that seems to be a common problem amongst the version of books so I won't hold that against it. All in all, I can't wait for the next books to find out where the author is going to take the story line.
